"A Rose By Any Other Name"
Sugared Roses
If you're like most people, you're probably tired of the same old silk floral arrangements. Well, here's something unique and beautiful to try. Sugared roses! That's right, sugared roses! They look like blossoms kissed with fairy dust. And, they're so simple to make.
Materials
Roses
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon water
Granulated sugar
Two bowls
Whisk
1) Select roses that are in full bloom and whose petals are open but not yet wilted. They can be any color you like. The bigger the blossom, the
better. They're much more showy that way.
2) In one bowl, whisk 2 egg whites and 1 teaspoon of water. In a separate bowl, pour in about an inch or two of regular granulated sugar.
3) Dip the roses (petals only) into the egg mixture, letting the excess mixture drip off.
4) Next, roll the roses in the sugar, coating the petals as much as you can.
5) Stand them up in a container, preferably so the blooms are not touching each other. Let dry for several hours.
To display, you can cut the stems off at the base of the roses and set the flower heads in a pretty crystal bowl. Or you can cut the stem short and place just one in a delicate tea cup. However you arrange them, they will make a beautiful accent on any afternoon tea table.

Another use for the sugared petals is to decorate a cake. Carefully pluck the petals from the roses and sprinkle individually onto the top of a cake for a pretty and whimsical touch!
