CHAPTER THIRTY
"Well, I need you to play a song for me first."
Tony picked up his guitar and called the band back on stage as Sam took Casey back down to the dance floor.
Sam told Casey that he had a song for her and the band started playing Savage Garden’s "I Knew I Loved You." Sam and Casey danced to the song, and as it was about to come to the end, the man at the front desk kicked on the heating unit which blew out little paper hearts that Sam had loaded the night before. The hearts floated down all around the dance floor.
Most of the women were wiping tears and secretly wishing they were the one out on the dance floor. The song finally ended and Sam asked, "Do you like balloons?"
Casey looked up with teary eyes. "Yeah, I like balloons. Why?"
"Well, that’s all I got you for your birthday was one big balloon."
Casey was confused but didn’t show it. "You didn’t even have to get me that, Sam. I’m happier than I could ever imagine just knowing that you love me enough to give me this party."
Sam glanced down and back up into her eyes. "Are you sure nothing would make you any happier right now?"
"I’m pretty sure," she admitted.
"Well, let me give you the balloon and then you can tell me after you see it. Because it’s a really nice balloon." Casey could tell he was up to something.
Sam pointed toward the ceiling. Casey looked up and saw the balloon being lowered down from the ceiling. It stopped when it met Casey’s eyes. There was a gift bag tied to the string.
The room was silent as everyone anticipated the opening of the bag. Sam hadn’t told anyone what was about to happen, not even his family. Tony only knew that Sam wanted the balloon to be lowered from the ceiling. "Well, there’s your balloon. Go ahead and look in the bag."
Casey opened the bag slowly as if she thought something was going to jump out at her. She peered inside and saw a dozen roses just like the ones Sam had gotten her from the convenience store a week ago when he took her to the Emergency Room. Casey smiled and said, "You got me another dozen roses like the one’s you got me last week."
