She had learned a hard lesson about marrying the right man whose tastes exceeded the boundaries of their marriage. She now had another lesson to learn; how easy it would be to cross that very same line herself every time she looked into the deep brown eyes of Horace Mason.

Debra Lynn lives just outside the city of Edmonton, Alberta with her husband, Roger, and their five dogs.  For several years, she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in the city of Edmonton.  Debra also acquired a class one license and assisted her husband on many long haul trips across Canada and the United States.  Returning from a trip to New York City was what prompted her first novel “The Secret of Emerald”, which is due to be released in 2008.

                    CHAPTER ONE

The desk she sat at had remained unchanged for the last fourteen years. The wear and tear was minimal. The only thing that had changed was her computer. The rest of the office furniture matched the tired old desk. Fourteen years at the same job and twelve years married to her husband. The only new thing in her professional life was the name change of her boss, and that was seven years ago. She found herself on occasion thinking that maybe someday something magical would happen. Her boss, Mr. Andrews, was as entertaining to talk to as the walls that she stared at every day, Monday through Friday, from the time she arrived at eight until the time she walked to that back office to say good night to her boss.
Things didn’t get any better at home. She married a tall, blonde, and handsome man with charm to match. The day Carl, her Wancé, asked her to marry him, she thought her life was complete. He was successful and smart, and everything he touched seemed to turn to gold for him. She was surprised when he was so involved in the wedding plans. Her parents believed he was and still is the perfect man for her. After the big wedding and Caribbean honeymoon, he sat her down one night and told her how much he loved her. She still remembered the feeling of confusion that developed on her face as he sat with his arm around her and looked her in the eyes and explained that although he loved her dearly, he would always need another woman and, on occasion, another couple. The crushing pain in her chest was only outdone by the lump in her throat, as she tried to understand the man that held her in his arms. She tried to free herself from his hold, but the more she struggled, the more his grip held her there. The tears started to run down her cheeks, and she gave up trying to pull away.
