Living a privileged life of a well to do Englishman, Devlin Robards now wants a home. Dealing in antiques through the Internet, he finds a house needing restoration in the town of Snohomish, Washington, U.S.A. KC Lynnson is a mouthy policewoman who lives next door. Even striking sparks off of each other, they work well together solving the coincidence of strange notes in her possession and notebooks found in his renovated house. Her friends introduce Devlin to the vulgarities of potlucks and back yard barbecues, while he retaliates with a taste of refinement. Feelings come to a head when KC is shot in the line of duty when a drug bust goes bad.

Robin Wood lives in the hills of the Cascade Mountains in Washington State in her remodeled house with her husband of years and years.  Writing and art are her hobbies.  She learned most of her crafts through the school of "do it and erase it until you think it's right."  Travel is a favorite pastime.  Robin still snorkels, hikes, camps and works community projects.  When she said she liked to paint, it earned her a roller and floor paint for the remodel project of the museum.  This is her second book, and she is currently working on her sixth.

"Okay, I'm ready but not willing to listen to your tirade."
"Well, there was this bank robbery today, and Kelly and I chased
the crooks through town and down the freeway going ninety miles and hour, well maybe seventy or eighty. The crooks finally crashed their vehicle and Kelly and I did a grandstand slide to stop and apprehended them. One guy had his face bashed in and there was blood everywhere."
Devlin spewed his tea across the table. "Bloody hell, don't tell
a man something like that when he's about to swallow. I could have choked to death. You're going to be the death of me yet. What do you
mean blood everywhere? Why did those blokes let you near anything that
gory?  I'll have to have a talk with Kelly ---"
"Stop! Stop, Devlin, that's my job."
She sure wasn't going to tell him how sick she felt after it was all over. He was a mess now. Think what would he be like if she started crying.
She couldn't help it, she started crying, not sobbing just
lightly crying.
"It was terrible, Devlin. I hate to see something dead."
What did you do with a crying woman? His hands gestured towards
her and pulled back, then not being able to stand it, he pulled her out
of the chair and held her tight.
