                     "The Cheesiest Harvest"

Nothing says Fall like crisp, delicious apples plucked right from the tree. Well, if you don’t happen to have an orchard in your backyard, then go to the grocery store and buy a bushel, because you will want to bake up a bounty of these Apple Cheese Loaves.

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/4 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup sugar (can substitute

Splenda for fewer calories)
1 large egg
1-3/4 cups milk
1-3/4 cups chopped tart apples

    (Granny Smith work well)
1-1/4 cups grated sharp
    Cheddar cheese
3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease two loaf pans and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, cinnamon and baking powder.

In a separate bowl, cream together the shortening and sugar. Beat in the egg and milk.

Pour the milk mixture over the flour mixture and stir until all the dry ingredients are moistened.

Stir in the apples, cheese and walnuts. Pour the batter, divided evenly, into the two loaf pans.

Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the top is browned and a cake tester comes out clean.

Remove the pans from the oven to a wire rack to cool for 10 minutes. Carefully slide the loaves from the pans onto their sides on the rack, and finish cooling.

A perfect complement to this heartwarming bread on your Afternoon Tea table is Stash’s Bed and Breakfast Blend Tea, a full-bodied blend of fine black teas with a very smooth finish. So, break out the baking pans and whip up several loaves. Your friends will come from miles around to join you in celebrating the year’s harvest.
