"Where the Art and Elegance of Taking Tea is Treasured"
"Don't Hang This Cake on the Tree"
Nothing says “Holiday” like a brightly colored ornament. And when that ornament comes in the form of a chocolate cake, it is a Christmas dream come true. Easy to make, easy to decorate, your family and friends will delight in seeing this work of art on your Yuletide table.
1 pkg. chocolate cake mix
1 small pkg. instant chocolate
pudding mix
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese,
softened
1-1/4 cup powdered sugar
1-1/2 cups whipped topping,
thawed
1 ice cream cone (with a flat
bottom)
1 piece (8") red string licorice
Decorating gel
Colored sugar
Preheat oven to 350°. Lightly grease two 9" round cake pans.
Prepare the cake mix as directed on the package and add in the dry pudding mix. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
Bake as directed. Cool on a rack for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans. Cool completely on wire racks.
In a small bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until well blended. Add in the whipped topping and stir until blended.
Place one of the cake layers on a serving plate; spread with 1/3 of the cream cheese mixture. Place the second layer on top. Spread the remaining cream cheese mixture on the top and sides of the cake.
Poke two small holes in the bottom of the ice cream cone and insert a 2" loop of licorice to resemble a handle coming out of the bottom of the cone. Press the open top of the cone into the side of the cake to resemble an ornament holder. This will represent the top of the ornament.
Decorate the cake with colored decorating gel and sugar in whatever design you desire to resemble a tree ornament. Serves 16.
With this giant “tree ornament” sitting on your holiday table, you will want to have a pretty urn filled to the brim with Elmwood Inn's Christmas in a Cup tea to serve to your family and friends.
